Why is it recommended by manufacturers not to use propane gas in a barbecue that has natural gas burner?
…And how does this relate to Carbon Monoxide Poisoning?

the gas valve are diffent
They have different size mixing chambers for gas/air mixture. Your cooking outside so no fear of carbon monoxide poisoning
The orifice inside the burner is a different size than burners designed for propane.
The size of the molecules of the 2 gases are different and the nozzles of the burners are different to make them work right.
the gas orfice is diffrent, most out door grills are set up for propane, you local gas co can change it over for you,
The gas outlets have different size output holes, DO NOT MIX THEM.
The gas orfices are different for LP and NG.
The main concerns are intense sooting and smoking, as well as voiding of any waranty that came with your grill.
I have worked at a fireplace and grill store for 8 years, and I have seen many grills ruined this way.
I would not reccomend it.
