What would cause my spiral electric burner to burn through to its white hot core?

I put on three quarts to boil and a few minutes later all the water was gone because the burner got white hot at the end of the spiral and burned through my stainless steel pot. What would cause that to happen, and can I replace that burner element?
Thanks!

Are you asking about the burner on an electric range? If so, yes you can replace those, but I would check the wiring before replacing it. Something caused it to overheat. Maybe the switch that you control it with.
