PLEASE DO NOT DO THAT....You will blow yourself and anyone around up. The regulator is to control the amount of propane pressure to properly operate the grill/burner, the ignitor is what it is a electrical spark usually produced by a battery sending the arc to the end of the wire at the burner which ignites the propane. Look for the battery compartment by tracing the wire or buy a new one or keep using the lighter.

WHOAH! Don't use a tee fitting! That could end bad! For this type of application the electronic spark igniter is the safest and best fix. What you need is something like this Char-Broil 2884681 Hot Shot Igniter, Single Spark. The problem with a standing pilot is the chance of the flame going back up the line. That style of pilot works in relation with a gas valve, not a pressure regulator on the tank. A spark igniter will not have that problem. Hope this helps. Good luck.

You can go to a plumbing supply house and get a standing pilot assembly , tubing and a safety control valve (the valve that shuts off the burner and pilot if the pilot goes out) about $80 -125
or a tee, pilot assembly, tubing and a small shutoff (mechanical valve) about $20 (with this you have no safety if pilot goes out)

they make 1/4 aluminum tubing which is used for pilots on furnaces and hot water heaters. The tubing ends are compression style fittings, with female or male ends. I imagine if you shopped around home depot long enough you could come up with some contraption that would work. Or you you could try to install a push-button spark generator, I think that would be less hassle.
